The Seaman boy's soccer program began it's 2010 campaign Friday night with a strong 4-0 performance in Kansas City against 3A school, Maranatha Academy. The Vikings, ranked fifth in the 5A Central Region, started quickly when senior forward Zak Hutchinson scored the team's first goal of the season only twelve minutes into the first half. Sophomore speedster Erick Rivera slotted home another goal off of a through ball from Swiss foreign exchange student David Notter just before intermission to hand Seaman a 2-nil lead. Hutchinson scored once more to begin the second half, and Rivera finished off the victory late with a header from a Peter Schmidt corner.
The Vikings and Coach DiLeonardo now look to expand on their season coming off a solid opening win.
"If you guys let your heads get high after one win, we're in trouble. There are 20 games between now and state. That's a lot of time to lose and get knocked down," said DiLeonardo during Monday's practice.
The boys resume practice this week and hope their next outing, this Thursday at Leavenworth, will have a similar victorious outcome.
